U.S. CDC study looks at rise of intentional unsafe sex. Research has confirmed what many gay men and HIV prevention workers have known for a while: the practice of gay anal sex without a condom—"barebacking"—is becoming more common.

Zidovudine may save breast-fed baby from mom's HIV. A short-course zidovudine regimen around the time of childbirth can prevent maternal HIV transmission, even when the infant is breast-fed over a long period, new research in West Africa shows.

Induction of mucosal protection against primary, heterologous SIV by a DNA vaccine. This is reportedly the first description of mucosal protection against a primary pathogenic, heterologous isolate of SIV. Four of seven vaccinees were protected from infection.
