UNAIDS: Armed forces can prevent the spread of AIDS

UNAIDS release

Nairobi, Kenya, 25 September 2003 -- Armed forces play a critical role in fighting HIV/AIDS worldwide. As part of its work on HIV/AIDS and uniformed services, UNAIDS published today the first of a series of case studies on the subject entitled, “Fighting AIDS: HIV/AIDS prevention and care among armed forces and UN peacekeepers in Eritrea”. The study highlights the first large-scale response to HIV by a UN peacekeeping mission since the UN Security Council’s Resolution 1308 of July 2000 that called on member states to address HIV/AIDS in peacekeeping operations.
